LINUXWORLD - OSA debuts interoperability prototype

Nonprofit vendor consortium the Open Solutions Alliance (OSA) made good on its April promise to deliver a prototype demonstrating interoperability between open-source and proprietary business applications in time for LinuxWorld this week.

The organization is showing off its Common Customer View (CCV) interoperability prototype at LinuxWorld, taking place in San Francisco. "We hit our deadline," said Barry Klawans, OSA spokesperson, who's been leading the work on CCV. He's also chief technology officer at founding consortium member BI (business intelligence) software vendor JasperSoft.

The CCV brings together information held in different vendors' applications to make it possible, say, for new information about a customer entered in an ERP (enterprise resource planning) application to also automatically show up when users access their CRM (customer relationship management) software.

Three Areas of Upgrade

StorNext has been upgraded in three core areas. Data Reduction Storage (DRS) is a specialized disk tier that incorporates de-duplication. DRS tunes data reduction to a specific data set and increases the likelihood that very high levels of data reduction can be achieved. DRS is established on a local StorNext volume attached to the MetaData Controller (MDC), which serves as the traffic cop – handling disk allocation as well as client side buffering so that when multiple clients are reading or writing to/from the same file, they all see the same content. This architecture guarantees high throughput at FC speed rather than LAN speed.

“Data De-duplication reduces a customer’s data footprint, saves money by lowering capacity requirements and enables data to be retained on fast recovery disk for a much longer period of time,” says Nathan Moffitt, StorNext product manager at Quantum.

BANGALORE and SANTA CLARA, Calif., Aug. 13 /PRNewswire-AsiaNet/ --

SVB Global, the international arm of financial services company SVB
Financial Group (Nasdaq: SIVB), announced its release of findings from a
multi-company, five-month study of human resources trends and practices in
India. The company's "Compensation and Benefits Industry Survey, 2007" is the
result of a study conducted by leading Indian research and consulting firm,
Zinnov, which surveyed the HR practices of 31 product development companies
with operations in Bangalore, Pune and Hyderabad, India.

The study found that a lack of middle-management leadership, an overflow
of entry-level and mid-level engineers and continued cost escalations for the
top 20th percentile of the information technology talent pool are among the
key workforce challenges that the Indian market faces.
