Since its inception a few years ago as the "Oracle-compatible database company" EnterpriseDB is still burning cash with no publicly shared revenue or profitability figures. New Jersey-based company announced today the availability of GridSQL for EnterpriseDB Advanced Server. Their press release says: "The new product enables OLAP applications to seamlessly leverage clusters of inexpensive commodity servers while appearing as a single database to the applications. Using this capability, enterprises can easily meet complex data warehousing and business intelligence challenges at a fraction of the cost of traditional solutions." When you compare the birth and the toddler years of EnterpriseDB with, let's say, Marc Fleury's JBoss, it does not give the impression that EntepriseDB is the next open source success story and a $375 million acquisition target.
