She knows she is a mere mortal, with the feelings of many other human beings, and she did not want to give up her son Ryan in fighting in Afghanistan. While I have seen Volitta as a woman with the faith to move mountains, her burdens have been heavy. She lost her husband Bill in May to non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, a slow-growing kind of cancer. Then his mother, Jane Fritsche, died and now Ryan is dead. He joined the service right out of high school. He was a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army Infantry when he was hit by enemy fire on July 27. When she was first informed about the incident, she sent this message on Sunday, July 29, at 1:32 in the morning, "Dear Friends, Early this week I wrote to some of you and asked for prayer for Ryan.
